Day 2

Well, I had a bit of a fiasco yesterday in that I suffered all the running around I had to do today with blisters on the front pads of BOTH feet.  NEVER walk in shoes that do not fit properly, or are not properly secured/strapped/laced....well, you get the idea.

Ok....I followed my new Fabulous App's plan and woke up with a bottle of water by my bed so I could drink water as soon as I woke up.  Easy-peasy. This is not a "Let's jump up, and give me five" kind of program.  I have three days of just getting water back into my body so I start the day off hydrated.

I should probably stop right here and tell you that I am in no way being paid to talk about this new Fabulous program.  Maybe in the future, I might ring their bell and see if there is a partnership opportunity, but for right now you are on this journey learning about it at about the same time I am.

My step count for the day was about 4000 steps.  I would be disappointed with that number, but I know how painful each of those steps was, so I am giving myself a pat on the back and not being that worried about it for now.

One good choice I made today as I was out shopping through the lunch hour was to eat lunch at The Huhot instead of my all-time favorite place Pepe's.   I knew I wasn't going to get a lot of steps in today, so I wanted to keep my calorie count as low as possible.  Here is what my lunch looked like:

YUM!  At this eatery, YOU pick all the meat, noodles, and vegetables you want to eat, add about six ladles of broth and oil, and the nice chefs that work around a huge circular cooking area prepare it for you as you wait.  I chose surimi (imitation crab), cabbage, red and green peppers, onions, and lots and lots of mushrooms!  I'm not a big noodle person, so those carbs were easy to pass on.

I. LOVE. MUSHROOMS!   And, YEAH! they have like zero calories!!!!!

You might be worried about the oils, but I only added two ladles of it, and they are small servings, about 100 calories each.  The restaurant also reveals the calories of all ingredients, so there is no mystery as to what you are adding to your meal.

Of course, I drank a big glass of water with this meal.  Did I mention that I also added a healthy spoon of wasabi to my plate?  A little extra fire to burn some calories off my meal.

The rest of the day has been spent doing some "secret stuff" that I can talk about later.  For now, I still need to balance the checkbook, fold Steve's clothes as soon as they are done drying, unload the dishwasher, and clean up the kitchen some.  Hopefully, I will cross most of this off my list before I hit the hay.

I had a Fabulous Moment today.  I needed to find some pictures, and my search led me to some memories that were 20 some years ago.  The faces and the moments made that time come flying back to me like we all were just together last weekend.  Pictures of friends...... you need to find them and put them where you can see those smiles and smile back at them.  This time spent with pictures really made the challenges of my day melt away for a precious space of time.

I can't say that I've had an easy day in my mind.  For some reason, I am fighting off a lot of negative words in my head.  It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I'm carrying about two people around on my two feet.  I could seriously lose about half my weight, and still be in the "healthy" range of weight for women in my age category.  There are a ton of aches and pains that go with the extra amount of weight, and some days I am so shocked at what is so hard for me to do.

Here's an example.  I have a pair of Sketchers I wear, but I've taken the shoe strings out and put in those stretchy little clamp things so that I don't have to tie my shoes every time I put them on,   Today,, however, I bought a pair of new walking shoes, and guess what?  I'm just gonna make myself tied the darned things every time I put them on.

Is it hard for you to put on your shoes?  If it is, you are so not alone!  Why not come hold my hand and make a pledge to wear shoes that need to be tied or strapped on?  Don't always go for the slides of flip-flops.  Deal?

Oops!  Just saw on my alarm app that Steve is headed toward the house to eat something so I will sign off for today.  Hope you found some Fabulous Moments in your day!  I would love to hear about them.

Day 1

Hey there everyone!  I'm not quite sure why I am starting this new blog, but it seems to be a calling that I just can't quite shake, so here we go.

In ten days, I will be 56 years old.  Not too bad, but there is room for improvement if this body and mind plan on hanging around for another 40-50 years.  I'm so proud of what I have accomplished in my life; there have been very few bumps in my road and so many wonderful rises and peaks.  I just feel the need to tweak, jump-start, kick myself in the butt in a few areas that I want to improve, and I am hoping by recording these goals and milestones, I will motivate myself to keep up the great work I intend to put into myself.

Now, honestly, I'm not sure who really wants to read about my day-to-day moments, but if you find yourself here, and you want to go along with me, well then I am happy to have you with me.

So let's get started.

Today, I started this project, Project: Lana's Journey by doing a few things.

1.  I unsubscribed to Weight Watchers.  I know it's a wonderful program, but I really suck at writing things down, and for me, it just didn't work.

2.  I called up the best neighbor in the whole wide world, Wannie, and we went for a walk. Probably about 2 miles, but we both saw 5900+ steps on our pedometers.  We both are using phone apps; I'm using Samsung Health because it's already on my phone.  Here are a few pictures of our view on the walk:

3.  I uploaded an app called Fabulous, and I am going to give it a shot at motivating me to be the best me.  It comes from Duke University, and so far I like the way it is taking on the challenge of making me a better me in a holistic way. Mindfulness is just as important as diet and exercise!. I will keep you posted on my progress, but the first goal it sets is drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning.

So, there you have it!  My first day working on being a better me.    If you are inclined, leave me an encouraging word.  Heck, join me if you would like.  Here's to the next 56 years of being the best I can be!

I will come back at the end of each day and record my steps and how my day went as a whole.

Today My Fitness Pal says I walked 7278 steps.  I would have walked more, but I was a huge dufus and wore the wrong shoes to walk in....Now I have a big blister on the pad of each foot, so I pretty much hobbled around here the rest of my day.  I also drank water in the morning!  I drank water more than just in the morning, but my challenge from my Fabulous app is to drink water as soon as I wake up in the morning.  Off I go now to put the water bottle by my side of the bed.  Daily challenge accepted and met!  Sweet dreams Peeps!
